It is immediately south of the community of Naughton in Greater Sudbury. In 2000, the community of Whitefish Lake had a population of 756.
Members of the Whitefish Lake First Nation have hunting and fishing rights within the Robinson Huron Treaty Area. An annual pow-wow is held in July each year.

Lake Simcoe is part of the navigable Trent-Severn Waterway connecting Lake Huron's Georgian Bay to the northwest with upper LakeOntario at the Bay of Quinte to the southeast.
The lakewhitefish is occasionally referred to as "humpback" because the head is small in relation to the length of the body, and older specimens may develop a hump behind the head.
Size and age: The lakewhitefish is commonly found at 18 inches in length and a weight of 2 to 4 pounds.
