Wikijunior is the working title for a set of books targeted to children aged 8–11 being developed at the Wikimedia project Wikibooks. This effort will consist of both a website and magazine. Project history

The Beck Foundation approached Wikimedia to create a set of wiki books for youth, offering a major startup grant for the effort. Wikijunior was initated October 24 on Wikimedia's Meta site by Wikipedia user Danny.

Development of the actual content began November 7, 2004, a month after the effort was first mentioned on Wikibooks. Future goals

It is presumed the online component of Wikijunior will be shown on a locked website, edited and approved on Wikibooks before becoming "live". This is currently being discussed.
