Encyclopedia > Wikipedian

Wikipedians are the people who write and edit articles for Wikipedia. Some might argue that Wikipedist would be a more appropriate name, just as encyclopedist means someone who contributes to an encyclopedia. The ending of Wikipedian, on the other hand, suggests someone who is part of a group or community. So in this sense, Wikipedians are people who form The Wikipedia Community. For additional discussion of the Wikipedia community, see the Meta site [1] (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedians) and Wikipedia:Who, Why?.

The number of Wikipedians has grown to over 180,000 user accounts, along with an unknown (but quite large) number of unregistered contributors. More detailed statistical information about Wikipedia is available at Wikipedia:Statistics.

The diversity of Wikipedians renders it impossible to make many categorical statements about Wikipedians as a whole. Some information about individual registered Wikipedians may be available on their user pages. However, users are not required to create these pages, nor to post any information on them.

This page contains lists of Wikipedians by country, as well as various other groupings. Different categories have been created due to demand. Individual Wikipedians may add themselves to appropriate lists if they wish. It is suggested that if you put your name on one of the more specific lists, that you also include your name on the alphabetical list.

wikipedians: A Wikipedia "Pearl Harbor"... (377 words)
A lot of people and organizations download the database regularly (I have a month-old copy of it myself that I was using for searches, as do many other wikipedians, I'm sure.)
Some wikipedians believe that a wiki simply can't grow too large before it becomes hopelessly unmanageable.
I think that as long as the rate of taking ownership for articles grows at a similar pace, we have enough eyeballs to keep it running.
