Wilberforce is an unincorporated community and census-designated place located in Greene County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the community had a total population of 1,579.


Geography

Wilberforce is located at 39°42'57" North, 83°52'48" West (39.715739, -83.880022)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 8.1 km˛ (3.1 mi˛). 8.0 km˛ (3.1 mi˛) of it is land and 0.1 km˛ (0.1 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 1.59% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,579 people, 189 households, and 133 families residing in the community. The population density is 197.3/km˛ (510.7/mi˛). There are 220 housing units at an average density of 27.5/km˛ (71.2/mi˛). The racial makeup of the community is 11.21% White, 84.17% African American, 0.38% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.13% from other races, and 3.99% from two or more races. 1.27% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 189 households out of which 26.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.1% are married couples living together, 9.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.6% are non-families. 28.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.57 and the average family size is 3.14.


In the community the population is spread out with 7.8% under the age of 18, 69.5% from 18 to 24, 9.4% from 25 to 44, 7.4% from 45 to 64, and 5.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 21 years. For every 100 females there are 93.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.8 males.


The median income for a household in the community is $31,641, and the median income for a family is $39,038. Males have a median income of $4,706 versus $23,906 for females. The per capita income for the community is $10,483. 6.5% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 16.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
