Willard's first and only album, Steel Mill (1992)

Willard was a music group from Seattle, Washington. Formed around 1989, they are acknowledged to be part of the grunge movement of the 80's-90's. They never quite broke out of the underground scene. Bruce Pavitt of Sub Pop took guitarist Mark Spiders out to lunch and told him they were "looking for a touring machine". Willard passed on Sub Pop's advances to avoid the "Grunge Bandwagon". Jeff Gilbert and Tad Doyle were instrumental in their first record deal which resulted in their one and only Jack Endino produced album, Steel Mill in 1992. They had previously released a self titled EP on [1] on Green Gel Records[2]. [1]. After performing an outdoor show for the "Pain In The Grass" Festival at the Seattle Center, Willard was banned from further performances by the Seattle Police Department and the City of Seattle. Willard T shirts soon proudly said "Banned by the SPD"![2]. Their music sounded similar to several other Seattle bands, namely TAD and the Melvins. Steve Wied was the original TAD drummer before joining Willard. Jack Endino is a music producer based in Seattle, USA. Long associated with Seattle label Sub Pop and the grunge movement, Endino worked on seminal albums from bands such as Mudhoney and Soundgarden, but is probably best known for producing the first Nirvana album, Bleach, released in 1989. ... They disbanded after recording a second record, Bone Grinder, which was never released. Only one song, "Larie" was released on a "Seattle Music Scene CD".


Mark, Johnny, and Otis, played in a side project called Ditch Witch with Tad Doyle of TAD, and Tyson Garcia who later played bass for Willard, Hog Molly, and The Ones. Ditch Witch never released any recordings, however there are bootleg videos[citation needed]. The second version of Ditch Witch was named Cluster Fuck and featured Tad on drums and vocals, Garcia on bass, Spiders on guitar, and Martin Chandler (Panic, Hog Molly), (The Ones) on second guitar[citation needed]. Tad was an American rock band from Seattle, Washington. ... Hog Molly was a Seattle-based heavy rock band, formed by Tad Doyle in 2001 after the breakup of his previous band TAD. However, unlike Tads previous band which dealt almost exclusively in recycled 70s heavy metal riffs, Hog Mollys sound was closer to Motorhead than Black Sabbath. ... In the Spring of 2000, the Willard Band was invited to and participated in the "Easter in Maastricht" International Music Festival in The Netherlands, also touring Belgium and Germany.
Most recently the band was honored to travel to Honolulu, Hawaii in June of 2004.

WILLARD, Mo. (AP) _ A school band in Missouri is suing a Michigan travel agency for allegedly extorting tens of thousands of dollars stemming from a trip to perform in a Hawaii parade.
Willard Band Boosters and the school district in Willard, Missouri, are seeking damages from Performing Arts Abroad for breach of contract, fraud and violation of the Merchandising Practices Act.
According to the lawsuit filed last week in Greene County Circuit Court, band and school district officials reached an agreement with P-A-A two years ago for a June trip to participate in the Pan Pacific Parade and to perform at the Battleship Missouri Memorial.
