William J. Mann is an openly gay biographer and Hollywood historian acclaimed for writing what called the "definitive" (Sunday Times, London) life of Katharine Hepburn: The Woman Whom Was Hepburn, published in October 2006. In addition, Mann has written the widely praised Wisecracker, a biography of film star William Haines; Edge of Midnight: The Life of John Schlesinger; and Behind the Scenes: How Gays and Lesbians Shaped Hollywood 1910-1969. Katharine Houghton Hepburn (May 12, 1907 – June 29, 2003) was an iconic four-time Academy Award-winning American star of film, television and stage, widely recognized for her sharp wit, New England gentility and fierce independence. ...
