William James Mayo (June 29, 1861 – July 28, 1939) was a physician in the United States and a co-founder of the Mayo Clinic. He was born to William Worrall Mayo and his wife Louise in Le Sueur, Minnesota. Education and Professional Work
Mayo earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan in 1883. Afterwards, he became a surgeon at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. along side his father and his brother Charles. In 1889, they co-founded a clinic that would later become the Mayo Clinic.
