Sir William Lamond Allardyce (1861-1930) was a career British civil servant in the Colonial Office who served as governor of Fiji (1901-1902), the Falkland Islands (1904-1914), Bahamas (1914-1920), Tasmania (1920-1922), and Newfoundland (1922-1928). The Secretary of State for the Colonies or Colonial Secretary was the British Cabinet official in charge of managing the various British colonies. ... Born on November 14, 1861, Allardyce was educated at Aberdeen and the Oxford Military College.
Allardyce rose rapidly through the ranks, and from 1902 to 1904, served as Receiver-General and Colonial Secretary.
