Woodburn is a city in Marion County, Oregon, United States. Lewis McArthur records a verbal tradition told to him by Charles E. Nebergall that Woodburn was named in the 1880s, after the railroad line had been laid thourgh the area, for a slash burn that got out of control and burned down a nearby woodlot. Woodburn was founded by Jesse H. Settlemier. There is a museum called the Settlemier house located on Settlemier Avenue, both of which were named after him.

The racial makeup of the city was 58.12% White, 0.45% African American, 1.17% Native American, 0.53% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 35.66% from other races, and 4.00% from two or more races. Production in Woodburn was shut down after only a quarter of the filming was completed due to massive rain. The majority of the filming in Woodburn was outside (exterior). This dampened the spirit of the production and local people whose employment on the production was unfortunately cut short. In addition, a beloved member of the Woodburn community who was served as a liaison between the production and the town succumbed to a long illness during production, adding to the sadness of Woodburn. The weather and sad atmosphere helped create one of the most beautifully filmed scenes in any Hallmark Hall of Fame Production, a funeral. Shot in the local cemetery while it was raining.
