The Wooden Ox was created by Zhuge Liang while he served Shu-Han. It was a mechanical, walking replica of an oxen who's main purpose was to carry supplies such as grain to an army that was running low on supplies. It has been unable to accuarately recreate it because it is unknown precisely what mechanism was used by Zhuge Liang in order to allow it to walk. What is known about it however, is that it could be found at the neck of the Wooden Ox. A tactician from Wei once tried to duplicate the wooden ox, but unfortunately he failed because he also could not make the ox move on its own.
Strictly speaking, the singular noun for the domestic bovine is ox: a bull is a male ox and a cow is a female ox.
American ox trainers favored larger breeds for their ability to do more work in addition to their intelligence (the ability to learn); for the same reason, the typical ox is the male of a breed, rather than the smaller female.
Ox teams are steered by commands or noise (whip cracks) and many teamsters were known for their voices and language.
