Woodford is principally noteworthy for being the birthplace of the founder members of the notorious association who called themselves the "Whore's Drawers" in the 1980s. At that time the group rivalled the ICF in terms of their activity, and it is now widely acknowledged that the ICF and indeed the present Labour Party drew inspiration from the WD's freewheeling style and general attitude. The close-lipped locals of Woodford are generally reluctant to divulge much information on their favourite sons, but some sketchy details can be reconstructed from the myriad local legends. The best looking member of the crew, if you like the "Faceman" equivalent as the group were often compared to the A Team, was an intriguing character who was tagged "Stingray", or "The Wolfman". Compared to him, the other players are but minor footnotes in a larger tale, but none the less, they deserve mention. Their names appear to be (if they are their real names): Blackie, Douglas, Floppy, Furry, London 'D', and Nobby. The order is given here alphabetically as the Stingray character was undoubtedly the mastermid of the group, but lead so magnanimously that no particular lieutenant emerges. After the members of the group left Woodford, it went to hell in a handbasket, and is now a right craphole.
