Woodlake is a city located in Tulare County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 6,651.

Woodlake is located at 36°24'59" North, 119°5'58" West (36.416435, -119.099544)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.4 km˛ (2.5 mi˛). 5.1 km˛ (2.0 mi˛) of it is land and 1.2 km˛ (0.5 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 19.51% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 6,651 people, 1,777 households, and 1,496 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,297.0/km˛ (3,357.4/mi˛). There are 1,874 housing units at an average density of 365.4/km˛ (946.0/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 47.06% White, 0.33% African American, 1.08% Native American, 0.90% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 45.81% from other races, and 4.77% from two or more races. 83.82% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 1,777 households out of which 53.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.5% are married couples living together, 18.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 15.8% are non-families. 12.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.74 and the average family size is 4.02.


In the city the population is spread out with 37.8% under the age of 18, 11.7% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 15.0% from 45 to 64, and 7.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 25 years. For every 100 females there are 106.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 103.5 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $23,653, and the median income for a family is $23,880. Males have a median income of $23,175 versus $15,625 for females. The per capita income for the city is $8,842. 36.8% of the population and 33.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 46.5% of those under the age of 18 and 14.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
