Encyclopedia > Woodrow Wilson Senior High School

Woodrow Wilson High School is the name of numerous High Schools throughout the United States which are named after the 28th president of the united states, Woodrow Wilson.

Some Locations of such educational institutions include:

  • Portland, Oregon
  • Beckley, West Virginia
  • Washington, DC
  • Portsmouth, Virginia
  • Long Beach, California (it is now called the Woodrow Wilson Classical High School)

It was recently proposed by a faculty member in Washington, DC's Woodrow Wilson High School that the name be changed due to Woodrow Wilson's allegedly antiquated and prejudiced racial views. Though this idea was primarily a means of instigating thought, it is a reflection on the diversity of the school's student body, consisting of:

  • 55% African American
  • 8% Asian/Pacific Islander
  • 19% Caucasian
  • 18% Hispanic
