In December 2005, two bodies were found in a field near this small village, quoted from Look North's website: "Police have said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the double shooting of two young people in a field. Carolyn Lemm, 16, from Sheffield, and Lee Smith, 20, of Lincoln, both died from single gunshot wounds to the head. South Yorkshire Police said a double murder or a murder and suicide were being considered as explanations. A 19-year-old man who was arrested in a nearby car has been bailed. A firearm left near the bodies is being examined. The bodies were found after a teenage girl ran to a nearby farm at Woodsetts near Rotherham late on Tuesday night. All four people are believed to have travelled together from Sheffield city centre to Swinston Hill near Woodsetts in the Fiat Punto, a journey of about 15 miles. Earlier in the day Mr Smith and the 19-year-old, who has not been named, used the car to travel to Sheffield from Lincoln. Det Supt Carl Sturgess said they had 25 officers on the case who were trying to gather as much background information as possible. "Clearly this is a tragic incident and devastating for all those concerned," he said. "Regarding what happened we are looking at a number of considerations, including a double murder or a murder and possible suicide."" |
