History

The station was rebuilt in 1996 to a modern design in steel and glass. It has a circular theme, quite different to what existed before. The previous building opened in 1906 was a London brick-built structure, very typical of southeast London. Future plans

Transport for London are currently planning and constructing an extension of the London City Airport branch of the Docklands Light Railway from its current terminus at King George V to Woolwich Arsenal[1]. Due to the technical challenges of boring a tunnel under the Thames, the plan is not expected to be completed until 2009.
