Word Records is a giant in Christian Music. It was founded in 1951 by Jarrell McCracken.


Several subsidiary labels were started over the years: Canaan Records in the sixties, Myrrh Records and DaySpring Records in the seventies, Rejoice Records in the eighties.


From 1984 until 1990 Word Records was distributed by A&M Records, afterwards distribution switched to Epic Records. The label is now owned by the Warner Music Group.

Malcolm Mimms will remain on as president and chief operating officer and Word will continue to be based in Nashville, Tenn. Word Entertainment is home to more than 30 active artists on several record labels and has a catalog containing more the 75,000 masters.
