Word Records is a giant in Christian Music. It was founded in 1951 by Jarrell McCracken.


Several subsidiary labels were started over the years: Canaan Records in the sixties, Myrrh Records and DaySpring Records in the seventies, Rejoice Records in the eighties.


From 1984 until 1990 Word Records was distributed by A&M Records, afterwards distribution switched to Epic Records. The label is now owned by the Warner Music Group.

Word through the years became the largest of the Christian record companies, owning and distributing several labels.
In December 2001, Word Entertainment was sold by Gaylord for $84.1 million to the Warner Music Group.
