World of Sport was a British television sport anthology programme launched on ITV on January 2, 1965 in response to Grandstand.
The programme also occasionally acquired genuinely major sporting events, such as the Ryder Cup golf tournament in 1977 (admittedly this was when it was still the United States versus the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland rather than Europe as a whole, and was therefore regarded as something of a mismatch).
ITV is paying tribute to World of Sport as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations in September 2005.
