Q.E. is famous for its Canteen, which exists instead of a common room. It is divided into a lower larger hall, which is predominately frequented by ex-Rusheymead, Judgemeadow and Soar Valley students, a middle section which is occupied by the sports crowd and a higher outdoor section used mostly by those who prefer the alternative lifestyle. An attempt was made to desegregate the canteen in 2006 by Ajay Pandya with the introduction of 'speed mingling', an idea consisting of new students being assigned to certain tables with people of different background for the first few weeks of term to create a more diverse set of friendship groups. The idea never really took off, and Ajay left to go onto a successful University career. The canteen is seen by many as an example of the class and race subcultures that exist within a city college as metropolitan as Q.E. The Duchy of Lancaster - Wyggeston's Hospital, Leicester (414 words)
Wyggeston Hospital in Leicester was founded by William Wyggeston the Younger in 1513.
In letters patent in 1572 it was stated that the hospital should be for ever called "Wyggeston's Hospital", and that the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster should appoint the Master and be a Visitor.
Wyggeston's Hospital makes an annual grant to the Trustees of the Wyggeston Schools Foundation who distribute this money with other income by making grants to students at the colleges.
