The XM26 Lightweight Shotgun System (LSS) is a developmental under-barrel shotgun attachment for the M16/M4 family of U.S. service firearms.
The XM26 LSS was developed by C-More Systems to meet the requirements of U.S. troops in Afghanistan for a lightweight door-breaching and less-lethal delivery system which could remove the need to carry an additional weapon such as a pump-action shotgun.
XM26 is also the designation for a helicopter Armament Subsystem.
XM26 12-Gauge Modular Accessory Shotgun System (MASS) Lightweight Shotgun System [LSS] (1593 words)
The LSS was operated by a reversible charging handle (could be used right- or left-handed) and most importantly, only added 2 pounds 11 ounces to the weight of the M-4 carbine.
Coinciding with the LOE for the LSS, the Infantry Center decided to support the requirement for the joint service combat shotgun and dropped the requirement for an accessory attachment shotgun from the operational requirements document for the M-4 MWS.
The LSS enables the soldier to quickly accomplish door-breaching, entry, and room-clearing operations in an urban warfare environment where he may encounter a NL crowd-control situation on the next city block.
