Xenogears Light | an arranged album is an album of 20 remixes in a comteporary style arranging material from the Squaresoft game Xenogears, the music of which having been composed by Yasunori Mitsuda. The original concept of the album, where every track would feature standalone or multitracked piano, was dubbed Xenogears: Shake the Ivories but was later scrapped for a broader approach where a piano was merely the predominant mode of instrumentation. A fan-made production, OneUp Studios licensed the use of the original music arranged for the album from Square. In order to obtain the content for this album, OneUp Studios held an open audition for fan-made MIDI arrangements of Xenogears. Once tracks were approved, the OneUp Studios staff then performed each track via a combination of samples and live performance. Every artist who submitted their work had at least one track chosen to be a part of the album. The album's catalog number is OUS-003. Xenogears' gameplay format is standard for console RPGs: the main characters advance the plot by traversing the game's world, which includes cities in the sky, vast deserts, and arcane ruins.
This issue polarizes the Xenogears fanbase to this day; there are those who love the game but feel that the second disc depreciated the overall experience, whereas there are others who feel that, since the storyline was the most compelling aspect of Xenogears, the switch in narrative style was appreciated.
