YTV (Canadian television) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (481 words)
YTV is a Canadian specialty television service aimed at children, available nationwide through cable and satellite television.
Launched on September 1, 1988, YTV was the successor to two prior special programming services operated by various Ontario cable companies beginning in the late 1970s.
YTV was the first North American broadcaster to air the British science fiction comedy series, Red Dwarf, although the episodes were heavily edited for language and content and at least one episode was banned entirely.

YTV is a Canadian cable television network aimed at young people up to the age of 18.
In its concern that YTV not appeal to audience members or age groups beyond its mandated audience, and thereby threaten the market of established broadcasters, the CRTC instituted the "protagonist clause" also known as the "Little Joe" rule.
YTV's efforts met with some success when the CRTC amended the protagonist clause in 1992 to include comic book characters, folk and superheroes, and classical or historical heroes.
