山手 is the kanji for Yamate. There are two Yamate areas in Yokohama city, Naka ward - one is the historic Yamate Bluff area, with the Foreigner's Cemetery and the Sacred Heart Cathedral. The other is the area around the Yamate station on the JR Keihin-Touhoku/Negishi line between Ishikawacho (石川町) and Negishi (根岸) stations. Yamate is famous in the Yokohama area as being the gaijin (foreign) neighborhood as several international schools and an internation athletic club are located there.
