Yamato (Japanese : 大和市; -shi) is a city located in Kanagawa , Japan .
As of 2003 , the ward has an estimated population of 218,999 and the density of 8,093.09 persons per km . The total area is 27.06 km.
History The city was established as a village in 1891, promoted to a town in 1943, and promoted to a city on February 1 , 1959 .
