Yangmingshan (陽明山) refers to the Yangmingshan National Park (陽明山國家公園) and its surrounding area. One of the six national parks in Taiwan, the Yangmingshan National Park is located between Taipei City and Taipei County.
The National Park is famous for its cherry blossoms, hot springs, sulfur deposits, and mountains to hike on including the Seven Star Mountain (七星山).
Yangmingshan was originally called Grass Mountain (草山) because the main mountains of this region are grassy. Chiang Kai-shek renamed the place Yangmingshan in honor of Wang Yangming, a Chinese scholar.

The Yangmingshan National Park was established on September 16, 1985.
Although the Yangmingshan National Park is an unsuitable habitat for large mammals due to its steep terrain and frequent human activity, the park's complex forest physiognomy still provides ideal nesting and feeding places for many medium and small wild animals.
