Yevgeny Aleksandrovich Kafelnikov (born 18 February 1974; Russian: Евгений Александрович Кафельников, yev-GHE-neey KAH-fill-nee-coff) is a former World No. 1 tennis player from Russia. During his career, he won two Grand Slam singles titles (one French Open and one Australian Open), four Grand Slam doubles titles, and the men's singles Gold Medal at the Olympic Games. He was known as a well-rounded player with one of the better two-handed backhand shots on the professional tour. Having retired at the end of 2003, Yevgeny tried his hand at poker as well as golf. Having limited success at both he now works as a commentator for russian TV covering tennis. He has a daughter Alyssia from his former model wife from whom he has divorced (2001). He also owns a couple of jets and is an avid pilot. In his apare time Yevgeny likes playing golf and reading newspapers. He is also best friends with current russian tennis player Marat Safin who also won 2 grand slam singles titles. In fact both of their careers are very similar in that they under-achieved, having promised so much.
