Vadiz married an Italian lawyer late in 1986, and they moved to Rome. Two weeks after moving there, her husband was found dead, and she was found unconscious near him. It was determined that the cause of the tragedy was gas poisoning. She was taken to a hospital in Rome, and her mother flew by her side. The news of her critical state and her husband's death crossed Puerto Rico immediately, and several personalities on different tv shows asked viewers to pray for her.
