Trivia

  • The number "Sixteenth" is a throwback to the days before the east-west concession roads in the former York County (which included the City of Toronto prior to 1954) north of the old city had been named. For some reason, the numerical designation was retained for four of the roads; Fourteenth, Sixteenth, Seventeenth and Nineteenth Avenues.
  • The signage erected by York Region along 16th Avenue is inconsistent in its naming. The avenue is variously designated as "Sixteenth Avenue", "16th AVENUE", or "16th Avenue".
