Jump to: navigation, search

Zeitgebers are environmental cues that usually help keep the circadian cycle. They reset an internal clock used in endogenous rhythms. Zeitgebers include sunlight, noise, social interactions, and alarm clocks. Circadian rhythm is the name given to the roughly 24 hour cycles shown by physiological processes in plants and animals. ... In an economic model, an endogenous change is one that comes from inside the model and is explained by the model itself. ... Rhythm (Greek ρυθμός = tempo) is the variation of the duration of sounds or other events over time. ...

Zeitgeber is a German compound word, made from "Zeit" (the time) and "Geber" (substantive from the verb "geben" - "to give")

Zeitgeber - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (88 words)
Zeitgeber (from German for "time giver") is any external (exogenous) cue that entrains the internal (endogenous) time keeping system of organisms.
The strongest Zeitgeber, for both plants and animals, is light.
Other, non-photic, zeitgebers include social interactions, pharmacological manipulation and food/drinking patterns.

In the present study, therefore, we investigate whether feeding schedules are weak zeitgebers in general or whether their impact on the circadian system of the birds depends on the degree of food restriction.
Zeitgeber stimuli, inherent in feeding cycles, could be temporal or metabolic; that is, either the duration of the daily food access time or the impact of the feeding schedule on the energy balance could be evaluated by the birds.
Additional indications for different zeitgeber strengths of the various RF schedules could be obtained from the phase angles in the midpoints of the activity rhythms assumed by synchronized birds.
