Academic programs

Zion is home to a Gifted Program for specially identified students.^[1] Another special feature is the "Spirit of Mathematics" program, a unique approach to math that has enabled Zion to be a winner of many distinguished math awards nationally and internationally.

The school has a reputation for academic excellence and achievements.^{[citation needed]} In the 2005 – 2006 Grade 9 Academic EQAO (provincial testing) mathematics test results, 91% of students enrolled in Grade 9 Academic math at the school scored at or above the provincial standard (Level 3); only 65% of students taking the test in the Toronto District School Board achieved this. ^[2] The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) is an advisory board legislated into creation in 1996 by the Government of Ontario in response to recommendations made by the Royal Commission on Learning in February 1995. ... Students involved in the orchestras and bands at Zion participate in many music events and competitions around the city as well. The orchestra has participated and won 1st place in The Kiwanis Music Festival several times in the past few years. The school supports band as well, including Concert Band and Stage Band of all grades. Some of the most talented musicians are coming from Zion soon. One in particular.
