Zipper Catches Skin is an album by Alice Cooper, released in 1982 (see 1982 in music). It saw the return of Dick Wagner to Alice's band, but is generally not considered to be of the same standard as his previous work with Alice. Zipper Catches Skin carried in the same direction of the preceding Special Forces, with less emphasis on hard riffs, and a stronger focus on comical lyrical content. Zipper Catches Skin and the following album, DaDa, are two albums which Alice reportedly has no recollection of recording, due to excessive alcohol abuse. There was no tour to promote either of these two albums and none of the songs have ever been played live. Image File history File links No higher resolution available. ... The Daily Vault Album Reviews : Zipper Catches Skin (756 words)
This does not mean however that Zipper Catches Skin sounds more like Alice's classic 70's output, because despite the presence of far more professional guitar riffing and a greater diversity in the overall songwriting, sonically this is very much a typical early 80's post punk style.
Cooper sounds like he had a lot of fun recording Zipper Catches Skin, and even though his vocals are sub-par due to a strange habit of talking through the songs more than actually singing, the mood overall is very upbeat due to the hysterically tongue-in-cheek subject matter and the blissful melodies.
Zipper Catches Skin is one of those rarer instances where Alice did not write with a concept in mind, but is simply just a collection of unrelated rock songs.
