History

Simon William Garth was a businessman and the father of Donna Garth, who was killed by his gardener known as Gyps. He was resurrected as zombie by his secretary, Layla using amulets of Damballah. Veve of Damballa In Vodun, Damballa is one of the most important of all the loa. ...

There are a few other characters in the Marvel Universe known as Zombie. These include:

  • In Tales of the Zombie #4, Zombie of Ancient Egypt appeared. The person died violently under unknown circumstances and was reanimated as a zombie by an unidentified man by calling upon Anubis & Ereshkigal. The man had him force a woman to marry him, but the woman eventually learned how to control the zombie and she had it slay the man.
  • The current Zombie is a member of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Howling Commandos Monster Force who first appeared in Nick Fury’s Howling Commandos #1.

It's a zombie comic written by a bloke who's famous for writing a zombie comic for another company, with the "added" twist that this has superheroes in it.
I'll admit that in the case of a zombie comic, that the audience is likely smaller than that of the average superhero comic, and as such Marvel are hedging their bets.
The upcoming Mary Jane comic would be a huge seller if Marvel would only get it to the audience that wants it; but that audience isn't going to go into a comic shop to get it, if they even know the book is available, given that Marvel aren't advertising it outside of the comics press.
