Kochi (Malayalam: കൊച്ചി [Kocci]), formerly known as Cochin, is the largest city in the state of Kerala, India, and one of the principal seaports in the country.
Kochi comprises the mainland Ernakulam, old Kochi including Mattancherry, Fort Kochi, Palluruthy and Thoppumpadi, the suburb of Edapally and the exurbia of Kalamassery, and Kakkanad to the northeast, and Tripunithura to south east, and a group of islands closely scattered in the Vembanad lake.
Kochi is the administrative headquarters of the Ernakulam district.
