Finns, are very suicidal, mainly because of the weather. We have very dark winters, which take up most of our year. The highest ammount of suicides happen in the spring. When the sun shines alot, but it doesn't melt the snow or affect nature in anyway. It is a very sad sight. Dead looking plants and the streets covered in dirt and rubbish.

Are the numbers reflecting actual suicide rate or willingness to report suicides as such. 15 years ago in Switzerland rates were said to be very high in Sweden, low in Switzerland. Yet, I, living in a Swiss city could draw a list of 15 people who had committed suicide (friend, schoolmate, friend's relative etc.) while most of my many Swedish friends could not think of one.

I was born and raised in Alaska with very similar weather as finland. we had a very high rate of suicide. I personally know 6 people who killed themselves between the ages of 17 and 25. very sad. and there were storries every year of people that were only 2 degrees separation from me.
