2) About the stats on South Africa
1) Where the data came from
I found this site:
http://laborsta.ilo.org/
Which has similar data (at least for Canada).
Note that the data on nationmaster.com is looking at "Strikes five-year average in days not worked per 1000 employees (1996-2000)", which means on laborsta.ilo.org, you'd be looking at table 9D "Rate of days not worked, by economic activity".
If you go to the bottom of this link: http://laborsta.ilo.org/applv8/data/c9e.html#T9C , you'll see the definition of tables 9D matches the data on nationmaster.com
2) About the stats on South Africa
On http://laborsta.ilo.org/ for data from 9D, South Africa seems to be missing data for years 1996 and 1997. Maybe nationmaster.com left out South Africa because of this missing data?? That's just my guess.
I hope this helps and also that you are still reading this after a long time.
