Overview	<p>French Polynesia is a sprawling possession of France in the Pacific Ocean, made up of 118 volcanic and coral islands and atolls, including Tahiti.</p> <p>For France this huge stretch of the Pacific - as big as Western Europe - remains strategically valuable.
