Recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia	Chancellor Angela Merkel said, "this contradicts the principle of territorial integrity, a principle based on the international law of nations and for this reason it is unacceptable".	Sturla B\u00f6\u00f0varsson , Speaker of Althing , condemned Russia for recognising the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in a joint declaration with speakers of Norway , Sweden , Finland , Denmark , Estonia , Latvia and Lithuania . Statement said that the recognition violates United Nations Security Council resolutions and contradicts principles of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe . Speakers also called on Russia to reverse its decision.
