Security consultant Evawere Oyede said that there was a "mixed" reaction in Nigeria towards bin Laden after his death. Oyede elaborated by saying, "Some people see it as a relief. While some people see it as a man who was trying to fight the Western world . Many people saw Osama as a hero." The country's Chief of Police, Hafiz Ringim, announced that Nigeria was put on red alert following bin Laden's death.
