Encyclopedia > A Maze of Death

A Maze of Death is a 1970 science fiction novel by Philip K. Dick. It was first published in hardcover by Doubleday. Philip K. Dick Philip Kindred Dick (December 16, 1928 — March 2, 1982), often known by his initials PKD, was an American science fiction writer and novelist who changed the genre profoundly. ... Doubleday is one of the largest book publishing companies in the world. ...

The plot revolves around 13 new colonists to the world Delmak-O. They all seem to be mentally ill in some way or other, and soon they start to become suspicious of each other. When one of them is murdered everything starts to fall apart.

After a short while, the remaining group decides to try to escape. The world is very mysterious and is inhabited by a strange, large, gelatinous cube that gives out advice. One by one various calamities take the lives of each character, and the group goes to the cube for advice, triggering a total breakdown of the world.

This is probably one of Philip K. Dicks weirder novels, and also one of the darkest.
