Charles Albert Gobat (May 21, 1843 - March 16, 1914) was a Swiss lawyer, educational administrator, and politician who jointly received the 1902 Nobel Peace Prize with Élie Ducommun for their leadership of the Permanent International Peace Bureau.

Albert Gobat, the first Secretary General of the Union, was also one of the eight leading figures in early IPU history who were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
Gobat held the following offices: State Councillor for the Canton of Berne from 1884 to 1912; National Councillor from 1890 to 1914; Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union from 1892-1909; and Director of the International Peace Bureau from 1911 to 1914.

Charles Albert Gobat (May 21, 1843-March 16, 1914) was born at Tramelan, Switzerland, the son of a Protestant pastor and the nephew of Samuel Gobat, a missionary who became bishop of Jerusalem.
In politics as in education, Gobat was a liberal, a moderate reformer.
Gobat presided over the fourth conference of the Union convened in 1892 at Bern.
