Carlos Domingos Gomes Júnior (born 1949) is the prime minister of Guinea-Bissau. He was appointed to that position on May 9, 2004 and was sworn in the next day. Gomes is the leader of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde, which controlled the country from independence in 1974 until a coup in 1999. He will head a coalition government led by his party, which won the most seats in parliamentary elections in March 2004. He is a banker and businessman, reputed to be the richest man in Guinea-Bissau. He was first elected to parliament in 1994. He is widely known as "Cadogo." The Republic of Guinea-Bissau is a country on the Atlantic coast of western Africa. ...
