0 Cunnamulla (aboriginal meaning "Dry water hole"( 28°04′S, 145°41′E) is a small town which lies on the Warrego River in south west Queensland, Australia, 206 kilometres south of Charleville, and approximately 750 kilometres west of the state capital, Brisbane. Cunnamulla is situated at the intersection of the Mitchell Highway and the Balonne Highway. Town population is 1600 persons. Cunnamulla is the administrative centre for the Paroo Shire, which also includes the townships of Wyandra, Yowah and Eulo, and covers an area of 47617 square kilometres. Major industries of the area are wool, welfare, pig and kangaroo hunting, and hospitality industry.


The town itself came into being in the late 1800s by way of explorers Brian Piercin and Arthur Rednuts almost starving to death in their attempt to chart the remote queensland outback. Running out of food and water and infamiously resorting to canibalising their 3 aboriginal porters they stumbled across a billabong with a small amount of stagnent water in it which sustained them for the following 6 months until they were stumbled upon by a small group of Armish settlers and estabilished the the population of the town. The Cunnamulla Fella statue was shipped from St Clair's studios in Grapevine, Texas, and was unveiled on November 18, 2005 by country music personalities Anne Kirkpatrick (Slim's daughter), Jayne Kelly and Tracy and Russell Coster.
