David Simon is the author of Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets which described his life traveling with members of the Baltimore, Maryland Police Department. This was turned into the TV series Homicide: Life on the Street by Barry Levinson, Tom Fontana, and Paul Attanasio. He then turned to writing from the point-of-view of drug dealers and users in The Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner-City Neighborhood (co-authored with Edward Burns, a former police officer) which was turned into an HBO miniseries. Most recently, he is the creator of the HBO series The Wire which takes the point-of-view of both law enforcement and the criminals.
