Edouard Lalo - LoveToKnow 1911 (437 words)
EDOUARD LALO (1823-1892), French composer, was born at Lille, on the 27th of January 1823.
Lalo was one of these, and during the succeeding ten years several interesting works from his pen were produced, among them a sonata for violoncello, a "divertissement" for orchestra, a violin concerto and the Symphonie Espagnole for violin and orchestra, one of his bestknown compositions.
Lalo was obliged to be content with this, and set to work with so much energy that he fell ill, the last scenes of the ballet being orchestrated by Gounod.
Biography - Edouard Lalo (Bio 1486) (484 words)
Lalo left home at the age of 16 because his father did not want him to be a professional musician.
Lalo, who was the quartet's violist and second violinist, composed a string quartet in 1859, thus enhancing his stature as a composer of chamber music.
During 1881 and 1882 Lalo wrote Namouna, based on a story from Casanova's Memoires, and the ballet was performed in 1883 to a less-than-appreciative audience.
