The objective of this investigation is to explore a little thermodynamics by looking at the relationship between the electrical work done at a resistor and the resultant increase in temperature of an insulated heater due to a change in internal energy.
Electrical work is done and a loss of electrical potential energy occurs as charged particles pass through a resistor.
Since electrical work done should equal the heat absorbed by the insulated heater (why?), combine the heat capacity equation and the work equation to come up with an equation that relates the temperature increase in the heater to the electrical work done in the resistor.
