Exopolitics is a developing branch of political science political relations which adresses all sociopolitical aspects of contact - past, present and future - between humanity and extraterrestrial civilizations. Although a relatively new discipline, it draws upon 60 years of research into the UFO phenomenon as well as hundreds of witness and experiencer accounts, many of which agree with each other.^{[citation needed]} Exopolitics first emerged into the public arena in 2000 with the publishing of the book "Exopolitics: Politics, Government and Law in the Universe" by Alfred L. Webre. Some of the witnesses who have come forward include Mercury astronaut Gordon Cooper, Apollo astronaut Dr. Brian O'Leary, Capt. Robert Salas (USAF ret.), former FAA Administrator John Callahan, former White House National Security officer Col. Phillip Corso, and scores of others. Overview

The possibility of extraterrestrial life has been theoretically addressed, often in the context of the Fermi paradox, while the existence of some form of extraterrestrial life has some support in the scientific community. In a broader context exopolitics deals with the political implications of purported extraterrestrial-related phenomena. Critical questions include what, if any, political framework might be established between human beings and extraterrestrials. Further studies discuss how aliens might think and how off-world populations may approach humankind. While the political aspects and implications of extraterrestrial-related phenomena have been discussed in print and other media since reports of UFO sightings in the 1940s, the matter had not been given serious consideration until quite recently. Exopolitics looks at the larger astronomical and astrophysical neighborhood in which we live, then tries to extrapolate the nature of interacting alien populations. In some analyses, the study of expolitics need not consider human conventions. Instead, it tries to sort out and predict pre-existing alien norms and conventions.
