However, the greens depend on the renewal of the pre-election coalition with the socialists for the parliamentary elections in June 2002.
German greens were much stronger structurally than most of their sister parties before entering federal government, but at the same time they also faced greater expectations for what they could achieve.
The greens are, however, experiencing a reduction to about 5 percent in their electoral appeal and must be concerned about the outcome of the September 2002 elections.
