Shue spent ten years as a player, during which he invented the "Spin Move", and 23 years as a Head Coach in the National Basketball Association. Shue was an NBA All-Star five consecutive times (1958-62) and was named All-NBA First Team once (1960). When Shue retired he was the highest scoring guard in the NBA. This record was later broken by Earvin "Magic" Johnson. As a coach, he guided the Philadelphia 76ers to the NBA Finals 1977, but eventually lost to the Bill Walton-led Portland Trail Blazers. This was the infamous game after which Daryl "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins ripped the toilet out of the floor in the locker room.
