Henrique Pereira Rosa is the interim head of state of Guinea-Bissau, following a coup to depose the previous president, Kumba Ialá.


He had been a businessman before, and was initially reluctant to accept the nomination from the military-appointed committee led by Veríssimo Correia Seabra.

Henrique Perreira Rosa, a 57-year-old businessman, took office on September 28 after being nominated by the leaders of a bloodless military coup which had ousted his elected predecessor two weeks earlier on charges of corruption.
Rosa's main task is to steer Guinea-Bissau, located on the West African coast, through parliamentary elections set in March and presidential polls six months later.
Rosa, during a trip to Lisbon earlier this month estimated Guinea-Bissau needed some $35 million for government workers who have not been paid for a year and for foreign commitments.
