Parallel cinema is otherwise known as New Indian Cinema, Indian New Wave, Indian Neo-Realism, or by the man/woman in the street, "art films". With the advent of new Malay film directors, there is a tendency to go back to their root cultures, that is their films used folk tales and history as their screenplay.
